Forts in Jaipur - The Pink City
It is an eminent tourist destination and welcomes hordes of visitors each year.
The city is dotted with magnificent forts & palaces, beautiful havelis and vibrantly colorful bazaars. Jaipur is a part of the famous Tourist Golden Triangle comprising of Delhi, Agra and the city of Jaipur. The best part about this place is that it is not only endowed with numerous tourist attractions but it also has the infrastructure to compliment the ever-growing tourist industry in the city. Some of the best Heritage Hotels of India are located here which spread out the magnificence and splendor of the Rajputs in ready welcome.
The city presents a unique fusion of culture and traditions of Rajput kings that can only be experienced. The visitor to the city should not miss the three forts which show the valor and determination of the Rajput Kings.
Amber Fort is located at a distance of 11 kilometers from Jaipur and was formerly the residence of the Kachhwaha clan till the time the present day Jaipur was built. The construction of Amber Fort was started by Sawai Raja Man Sigh in 1592 but it was completed by his descendant Raja Jai Singh I. The interiors of the fort are comforting and warm which are influenced by the Hindu and Muslim style of ornamentation. Amber Fort is built in white marble and red sandstone. The presence of the Maota Lake lends an ethereal quality to the fort. The fort is accessible by road or if one really wants to get the feel of the times gone by, they can ride the elephant which is a slow but fun-filled ride.
Nahargarh Fort was built in 1734 by Sawai Jai Singh II after the completion of the Jaipur city. The fort had a strategic importance as it is located on a steep hill. It was built to bolster the security of the city. The fort was originally named Sudarshan Garh but later on it was renamed as Nahargarh after the Rajput Prince Nahar Singh who had died here. Though the ravages of time have dealt their blows on the fort, yet the newer additions made by Sawai Ram Singh II and Sawai Madho Singh are quite captivating and enchanting.
Jai Garh Fort was built by Sawai Raja Jai Singh in 1726. It was the royal treasury of the Jaipur royal family and is well preserved for its military structures. It is considered as one of the three strongest forts in India. The fort is perched atop a cliff which gives it a rather rugged look. One of the highlights of this fort is the massive cannon Jaivan which is considered to be world's biggest cannon on wheel. The views from the fort are breath taking which can be really enjoyed to the fullest by visiting the Diwa Burz watch tower.
Apart from the forts, there are a host of different places which are a must see in Jaipur. This includes a visit to the Hawa Mahal, the Jantar Mantar, Moti Doongri, Sisodia Rani Ka Bagh and the mesmerizing Jal Mahal.
