A problem known as 'thermal cracking' has been a well-known issue effecting traditional fiberglass shingles. These types of shingles have a tendency to expand and contract due to changes in temperature. As a result, stress builds up and produces tears or cracks in the shingle.

Specific to impact resistance, incorporating SBS into a shingle's asphalt formulation has been known to help the shingle obtain the coveted Class 4 Impact Resistance rating—certainly coveted by any homeowner who's roof endures grueling Midwestern hail, snow and wind storms. Asphalt shingle products such as StormMaster® LM, StormMaster® Slate and Art-Loc® are all based on a specialized SBS formulation and can provide the ultimate weather protection for your roof. Not only that, but the increased durability provided by SBS technology will also ensure that your new roof will be looking new, longer.
